Creating new assets that provide a capability to the customer is a major activity for VT. It includes equipment such as naval vessels, aircraft and specialist vehicles, systems, such as command & control and communications networks, and infrastructure such as schools, training centres and transmitter sites.
In some cases we manufacture the asset. In others, we procure the asset from a third party, applying our supply chain expertise to ensure value for money and fitness for purpose.
Examples
- We have designed and built four Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Navy (RN). The ships are manned by RN personnel, and owned and maintained by VT.
- We have recently built two fire training centres with our construction partners. We operate the centres on behalf of fire and rescue services in south west England and Wales.
- We have built transmitter sites in the UK and overseas. This involves erecting masts, constructing buildings and installing the transmitter systems.
- VT is a systems integrator for a wide range of communications and IT equipment in both the UK and US.
- We are currently developing new technology that allows broadcasters to manage their programme outputs more effectively and reach wider audiences, through the use of the internet and mobile devices.
- VT provides the time signal used by millions of people in the UK every day. As well as keeping time in households, the atomic-clock-driven signal is also used by everything from transport and telecommunication systems to the emergency services and the BBC’s famous ‘pips’.
