1997 Vosper Mantech win contract to provide engineering and logistics to government agency
1998 Fleet Support Ltd established at Portsmouth Naval Base

VT wins contracts to provide training and associated services for the British Army at REME Bordon and SEME Arborfield
1999 Careers Management acquired


2000 VT Aerospace created following acquisition from Bombardier  
2001 Hospitality Plus acquired, moving VT into commercial vocational training sector


8 Aug 2001 VT acquires Westminster Education Consultants, providing inspection and consultancy services into schools


2 Nov 2001 Griffin Services acquired, establishing presence in US market  
14 Nov 2001 VT acquires Merlin Communications - originally the engineering division of the BBC’s World Service.
2002 Name changed to VT Group plc        
5 Jun 2002 HMS Tyne, the first of the three River Class offshore patrol vessels is launched. The ships were funded by VT and provided to the Royal Navy on an availability basis.
8 Jul 2003 VT Communications wins £220m contract to operate the UK MOD’s High Frequency Communication Service
12 Aug 2003 VT sells VT Controls and VT Brisco



9 Sep 2003 VT wins contract with Agusta Westland to provide training to British Army on Bowman Radio system
 
4 Nov 2003 Severn Park, VT’s training facility for the Somerset, Avon and Gloucester fire and rescue services opens in Bristol.
2 Feb 2004 VT expands services in US following purchase of several key contracts from JA Services Group  
31 Mar 2004 VT wins £100m contract to partner Surrey County Council to provide educational and support services to Surrey’s schools
8 Jul 2004 VT wins £100m contract to manage the Royal New Zealand Navy’s main dockyard

25 Oct 2004 VT strengthens position in education sector through the joint-venture acquisition of the Guidance Enterprises Group.


1 Apr 2005 North American business strengthened following acquisition of HCTC
   
2 Jun 2005 VT sells equipment manufacturer VT TSS to management team.



9 Jan 2005 Vocational training business strengthened following acquisition of HCTC


6 Feb 2005 Training business strengthened further by purchase of Touchstone Learning and Skills


28 Apr 2005 Equipment Support business enhanced by £85m acquisition of defence and critical services businesses from Aviva plc (VT is leading the way in availability based contracting – see diary for more information)  
6 Jun 2006 Cardiff Gate, VT’s training centre for South Wales Fire and Rescue service opens
23 Nov 2006 VT selected as Strategic Partnering Organisation for Greenwich’s £290m Building Schools for the Future programme
30 Nov 2006 VT’s joint venture with Lockheed Martin chosen as preferred bidder on UK’s £6bn military flying training programme
7 Sep 2007 HMS Clyde launched at Portsmouth.
16 Jan 2007 VT Shipbuilding signs £400m contract to provide three offshore patrol vessels to the Royal Navy of Oman
12 Feb 2007 VT broadens US-based capabilities following acquisition of Milcom Systems Corporation
21 Mar 2007 VT Aerospace selected as preferred bidder by Agusta Westland for £40m contract to support UK’s Search and Rescue Sea King fleet

10 Apr 2007 VT wins £150m contract to build and support three Offshore Patrol Vessels for Trinidad and Tobago
29 Nov 2007 VT named preferred bidder for £700m Wakefield waste recycling programme
14 Dec 2007 Lewisham creates partnership with VT joint venture Learning 21 for £400m Building Schools for the Future project
2 Jan 2008 VT further broadens US-based capabilities with acquisition of Advanced Engineering and Planning Corp (AEPCO)
18 Jan 2008 VT enters nuclear decommissioning and consultancy sector with acquisition of Project Services from British Nuclear Fuels plc.
1 Feb 2008 VT Education and Skills selected as education partner for London Borough of Waltham Forest

26 Mar 2008 UK’s Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft project signed with Airtanker.
2 June 2008 UK Military Flying Training System project signed with Ascent
1 July 2008 VT and BAE SYSTEMS merge shipbuilding and naval support businesses to create BVT Surface Fleet. Flagship becomes 100% VT-owned        
2009 VT announces that it has signed a legally binding agreement with BAE Systems plc to dispose of its 45% shareholding in BVT Surface Fleet Limited, becoming a pure support services business.        
  VT achieves Carbon Trust Standard after action on climate change
